Introduction
The University of Oxford and King Abdulaziz University (KAU) are one of the oldest universities in the world and Saudi Arabia, respectively. Recently, both institutions took the lead in a number of international world rankings as a result of their excellence in academic research and community engagement. KAU has a large number of international cooperation, its aim being to build bridges with various international universities and research centres to exchange expertise and knowledge, and to disseminate world-class technologies locally. One of the key scientific collaborations involves a strategic partnership with the University of Oxford. This academic research cooperation has resulted in many joint studies as well as student trainings on advanced technologies through the KAU-Oxford University Future Scientist Internship Program. In addition, this partnership has helped establish the cancer metabolism and epigenetics unit at KAU as well as facilitate faculty exchanges. As an extension of this fruitful collaboration to promote academic cooperation and technology transfer, KAU and the University of Oxford will jointly organize the Bio-Innovation Symposium under the patronage of the KAU President HE Prof. Dr Abdulrahman Al-Youbi. We are excited to announce that Prof. Sir Peter Ratcliffe, who recently won the 2019 Nobel Prize in Medicine and Physiology, will address the symposium attendees with a keynote talk. We welcome and encourage researchers, scientists, faculty, students and industry experts to participate in the Bio-Innovation Symposium.
Dr. Hani Choudhry, KAU
